EQ-5D-5L Valuation Study in UAE

Developing a value set for the EQ-5D-5L health states based on the preferences of the UAE general population.

Aims

The primary aim of this study is to develop a value set for the EQ-5D-5L health states based on the preferences of the UAE general population. Secondary aims are to:

  • Examine the construct validity of the EQ-5D-5L instrument in the UAE general adult population
  • Develop population norms for the EQ-5D-5L
  • Identify determinants of preferences in the UAE population
  • Explore the impact of culture and religion on completing preference elicitation exercises

Methods

This is a cross-sectional population-based study involving interviewer-administered face-to-face interviews following the EuroQol EQ-5D-5L valuation protocol and using the EuroQol Valuation Technology (EQ-VT).

A sample of 1,150 adults will be recruited from the UAE general population using a two-stage quota sampling. Interviews will be conducted by trained research assistants who will undergo a 3-day training, and will take place in private and convenient settings depending on the participant’s preferences. EuroQol quality control processes will be followed to ensure high quality data.
